PORTHMADOG manager Craig Papirnyk has added two new names to next season’s squad - whilst one member of last year’s squad has decided to leave the Cymru Alliance club this week.
Defender Daniel Roberts and left-sided player Cai Parry have both arrived at the Traeth, but Iwan Lewis has decided to return to his former club, Caersws.
Roberts is a tall centre-back, who joined Wrexham Youths after playing for Bala Under 15s and the Welsh Schoolboys.
“Dan has really impressed in the two games he has played for us," said the Porthmadog boss.
"He is a young player, but plays with real maturity. He is tall, strong and an intelligent footballer with great technical ability who can play with both feet.
"He is a good signing for us, and is definitely one to watch. I am delighted he has signed, and I’m looking forward to working with him."
Also returning to Porthmadog at senior level is Cai Parry, who had previously played for the Academy sides.
"Cai has also impressed immensely during the two pre-season games," said Papirnyk.
"He is a left-sided player, who has a lovely left foot. His pace and strength running with the ball are strong traits for any wide player and he is composed for a young man.
"Like Dan is one to watch, and I am looking forward to seeing him develop with us.
"He has had senior experience with Llanrug in the Welsh Alliance and also spent time at Connah’s Quay over the past two years on a scholarship."
In recent weeks, the Porthmadog squad has been boosted by the return of former Bangor City striker Chris Jones, as well as Iolo Hughes from Bangor City and Tomos Clarke from Glantraeth.
Porthmadog enjoyed a good workout in their first pre-season friendly, winning 5-0 at Llandyrnog United, with goals from Asa Hamilton, from the spot, Iddon Price, Cai Jones and a Jamie McDaid double.
Last weekend they won 1-0 at Llangefni Town, with Gwydion Ifan scoring the only goal of the game.
"Overall it was a fairly contested game, with both sides playing some very good football," said Papirnyk.
"Pre-season is about fitness and getting match sharpness. We gained both at Llangefni, who I thank for an excellent game on a great surface.
"Although results are not too important, the performances are, and we are picking up good habits and building the right momentum.
"We will now work hard through the week at training and look forward to making the trip to Oswestry this weekend."
The introduction of 16 year-olds Sion Edwards and Meilir Edwards was a highlight for the Porthmadog Academy system, with both players giving a very good account of themselves.
Rob Owen from last year’s Reserves also made an impact during the time he was on the pitch.
For their third pre-season friendly on Saturday, Porthmadog will cross the border to Shropshire to take on FC Oswestry. The game will be played on the 3G pitch at Park Hall, the home of The New Saints. Supporters should note the kick-off time of 5pm.
