TYWYN/BRYNCRUG ended 2016 with a spirited performance in the Spar Mid Wales League division one as they notched a 2-2 draw at home to Aberaeron on New Year’s Eve.

Looking to end the year on a positive note, third-from-bottom Tywyn battled well to earn a share of the spoils through goals from Tom Allen Davies and Aled Jones.

Sion Clarke and David Evans netted for the visitors, who were unable to move up into a top five position.

Berriew ended 2016 top of division one, as a hat-trick by Karl Seliaerts and a Richard Davies goal sealed a 4-1 win over Machynlleth, who had scored first in the first half through Andrew Page.

Rhayader Town remain level on points after two goals by Ifan Burrell, his first a penalty, and singles by Gareth Hughes, Richard Powell and a Tom Bethell penalty sealed a 5-3 win over Llandrindod Wells, with Elliot Williams, Ryan Sims and Shaun Nicholls replying.

Radnor Valley eased to a 6-0 win over Montgomery, with a hat-trick from Geraint Lloyd, two by Joe Price and one from Lewis Morris.

Knighton Town beat Hay St Mary’s 2-1 with a Danny Ives header and an Adam Worton free kick, after Steve Morgan had equalised.

Bow Street meanwhile produced a battling display as they ended the year with a goalless draw with Carno.

The previous evening had seen Welshpool Town beaten 4-3 at home to Llanrhaeadr, who ultimately took the spoils through Glenn Evans, Iwan Matthews and two penalties by Iain Edmunds.

Two penalties from player manager Neil Pryce and a header from debutant Ricky Litchfield proved to be not enough for the Lilywhites.

On Boxing Day, Llanidloes Town’s winning run ended with a 2-0 defeat against high-flying Rhayader Town, after a Richie Powell header and a Steve Jones own goal.

A hat-trick from Rich Davies sealed a solid 7-0 win for Berriew over Montgomery, with Karl Seliaerts scoring twice and Darryl Jones and Jamie Dockerty also netting.

A well-taken Mark Edmonson hat-trick sealed a 4-2 win for Tywyn/Bryncrug against rivals Machynlleth.

Aston Heath also found the net for the visitors, whilst Sion Williams and Alex Davies netted for Mach.

A Boxing Day brace from Tom Williams capped a 5-0 win for Bow Street over Aberaeron, with Dean Evans and Tom Evans also scoring.

Carno beat Llanrhaeadr 2-1, with Iain Edmunds’ goal being cancelled out by two goals by Richie Evans.

Matt Croose, Brendan Hackett and Adi Lawford sealed a 3-1 success for Hay St Mary’s at Llandrindod Wells, whilst Adam Worton’s winning goal earned Knighton Town a 1-0 home win against Radnor Valley.
