BRO Ffestiniog let it slip in the North Wales Plate Final as Llandudno came back from a 15-10 deficit to triumph 35-18 at Eirias Park.
It took seven minutes for Bro to open the scoring, after winning a lineout inside Tudno’s 25. The pack drove towards the line, with prop Dylan Jones going close, before off-loading to scrum half Aron Roberts to cross for an unconverted try.
Llandudno stand off Lee Davies split the posts with a penalty, but when a handling error following a scrum was pounced on by Bro’s Tom James, quick recycling sent the ball out through the backs to centre Steve Price to score a try under the posts, converted by fly half Danial McCormick.
Llandudno replied when they were awarded an attacking scrum five. Bro kept them out through three phases, but hooker Mike Hughes found a gap and crashed over, with Davies adding the conversion.
Two successful McCormick penalties either side of the break gave Bro an eight point lead, but Davies added another penalty when Bro were penalised for offside.
From the restart Llandudno scored the try of the match, when Davies started and finished the move from inside his own half, which included forward and backs, creative angles of running and great support play. Davies also converted to put Tudno into the lead for the first time.
This spurred on the Division One North team and from a scrum on the half way, a move involving the back row trio of Josh Griffiths, Billy McQueeney and Josh Williams was finished off in style by Mike McQueeney with an unconverted try.
Bro were then penalised for a high tackle and Llandudno chose to kick for touch. Clean ball off the top of the lineout was spread out one way then the other and quickly recycled for scrum half Lewis Griffiths to score another unconverted try.
The final try was another for Tudno’s Davies. A poor clearance kick by Bro was gathered by the fly half who chipped over the oncoming defence and went over to claim his brace, but failed to convert.
