A PENPARC woman with Down’s syndrome has attended a fundraising reception at 10 Downing Street hosted by Samantha Cameron.

The reception was for charity Cerebra which supports children with brain-related conditions and their families by funding ground-breaking research, supplying top quality advice and information and providing direct support services.

Among the guests at the event were Alissa Elsaesser and her father Alex (seen right with Mrs Cameron).

Alissa, a former student at Cardigan High School, was born with Down ’s syndrome and is now a firm supporter of the Carmarthen-based charity.

Earlier this year, Alissa displayed true grit and determination by running the London 10k, raising nearly £3,000 for the charity.

Speaking after the event Alissa said: ” It was a very good experience for me to be at Downing Street and I was really happy to meet Samantha Cameron. I told her all about my 10k run and how I’d managed to beat my dad! She asked me how much I’d raised and said she was really proud of me. I think Mrs Cameron is a lovely person and I really admire her.”
