Last week’s letter in the Cambrian News from Roy Price pointing out the Senedd proposal for reducing the speed limit on roads in Wales, currently at 30mph to 20mph in three years’ time must be pleasing to a lot of residents of small villages who have to endure drivers of vehicles (and cyclists) disregarding the inherent dangers of speeding through the narrow twisting roads that run through our villages and hamlets.

However, never mind a possible three-year wait, here in Dol-yBont we are now into our third decade of waiting for Ceredigion council to reduce the speed limit over the narrow twisting road through our village including a humpback bridge, from 60mph to 20mph and this is despite an additional two letters from Geneu’r Glyn Community Council to the county council highways (just in this year alone), the first after the February meeting the second after the September meeting.

The current expectation, according to one of the community councillors is “there is a letter on its way from the county council”.

The old adage of ‘actions speak louder than words’ is more than appropriate. Or is this considered a ‘major road safety concern’ and one which is a matter for the Senedd to approve?
