AN Aberystwyth gym is holding a rowathon to raise money for a fund set up to honour former Aberystwyth Rugby Club player Eifion Gwynne.

CrossFit Aberystwyth, where Eifion was a member, is hosting the 24-hour rowathon starting at noon on Friday, 19 May, with Tom James, of the gym, hoping to attract as many rowers as possible.

The aim is to row a million metres over the 24-hour period with seven people rowing at any one time in 30-minute slots.

Tom said: “Eifion, or ‘The Engine’ as he was known by the members of the gym for his great fitness, was a member for over two years and a close friend to many at CrossFit Aberystwyth.

“In his memory we have decided to run a 24-hour rowathon to raise money for his fund to be donated at the Diwrnod Eifion the following weekend at Aberystwyth Rugby Club.

“We will row a million metres over 24 hours with seven people rowing at one time in slots of 30 minutes.

“It would be hugely appreciated if we could get people in to take part for such a great cause in memory of such a great man.

“This is not just for people who attend the gym, this is open to everyone and anyone who knew Eifion and the family.”

Anyone who would like to take part can book a 30-minute slot by filling in a time sheet in the gym, phoning 01970 626569, messaging CrossFit Aberystwyth on Facebook or e-mailing [email protected]

Tom said organisers were encouraging a £10 donation to the Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/eifiongwynne24hourrowathon.
