CUTTING the speed limit on Aberystwyth’s Boulevard St Brieuc is one of the priority changes following a review of speed limits on Ceredigion roads, it has been confirmed.
Calls have been made to reduce the speed limit on the road to 30mph from 40mph, out to the roundabout near the Ceredigion Council and Welsh Government offices, after a string of incidents where pedestrians were injured, including a female jogger who suffered critical injuries in a collision in January 2016.
A petition was launched in 2011 after a 10-year-old boy was knocked over while walking to school.
Following the county-wide review of speed limits and requests for changes, the council has identified the area as one of the speed limits that should be changed first.
Consultation has been carried out with the police over the proposed changes and highways Cabinet member Alun Williams said the change on Boulevard St Brieuc should be in place soon. He said: “There will be a reduction from 40mph to 30mph on that section.”
