A Lampeter grandfather has been so inspired by the fundraising effort of Captain Tom Moore that he has decided to follow suit.

Rhythwyn Evans from Tan-y-Graig farm, Silian, near Lampeter, celebrates his 91st birthday on Saturday and to mark the momentous occasion, he plans to walk around his home 91 times.

Rhythwyn was inspired by the story of Bedfordshire Army veteran Captain Tom Moore, who has raised a massive £14 million by walking around his garden 100 times.

Rhythwyn’s granddaughter Eryl Bradley said: “He saw Captain Tom’s brilliant story on the news and wanted to do something to support, locally.”

Rhythwyn would like to support his local health board, Hywel Dda, to show his gratitude for the outstanding work of the workers in these extremely challenging times.

He is aiming to raise £500, and every penny donated will be directed to support the welfare and wellbeing of our NHS staff and volunteers caring for Covid-19 patients.
