A SEARCH and rescue team had to be called out after a 70-year-old man, believed to be local, died at a beauty spot overlooking Machynlleth.

On Saturday morning, emergency services were tasked to retrieve the body of the man from Pen yr Allt mountain.

Due to the remote location of the casualty, Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team was called upon to help recover the body.

A spokesperson for the team said: “At around 10am the team was requested to assist Dyfed-Powys Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service in the recovery of the body found on a hillside overlooking the town of Machynlleth.

“The casualty was stretchered off the high ground and handed over to a waiting undertaker.

“Our best wishes and sympathies go out to the friends and family of the deceased.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin and HM Coroner have been informed.
