A FORMER Plaid Cymru regional Assembly Member will appear before magistrates on 3 October after being charged with making indecent images of children.

Simon Thomas, who resigned as a Mid and West Wales AM after being arrested by officers, has now been charged and given a date to appear in court.

Police confirmed that charges had been laid against Thomas, who lives in Aberystwyth.

A spokesperson said: “Dyfed Powys Police can confirm that 54-year-old Simon Thomas from Aberystwyth has today (18 September) been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children and will appear at Aberystwyth Magistrate’s Court on 3 October 2018.”

Thomas was arrested by police at the end of July with a police investigation taking place.

He had represented the Mid and West Wales region since 2011 and was MP for Ceredigion before then.
