Extensive searches are continuing for the mother of a baby whose body was tragically discovered on the Bangor coastline.

North Wales Police were contacted by a member of the public reporting the discovery of the baby’s body near the Siliwen Road area of Bangor shortly before 5pm on Sunday, 27 September.

We are working closely with partners at a fast pace to establish the circumstances.

Superintendent Llinos Davies said: “Our immediate concern continues to be for the health and wellbeing of the mother.

“My message to her is that you do not have to face this alone. Please get in touch and seek the support you may need. There are people ready to help you.”

Speaking to the wider public, Superintendent Davies continued: “I understand that this is a shocking incident for the community and I am grateful for the support and assistance that we have received so far.

“I continue to urge anybody with information regarding a woman or girl you think may have been pregnant or whose behaviour has been unusual or out of character over the past few months to please contact us.

“All names received will be treated with the utmost discretion and can be eliminated as the mother without delay.”

A police presence will remain in the Bangor area in the coming days as part of the investigation, and cordons remain in place to allow officers to carry out their duties.
