North Wales Police is investigating a report in Tywyn of a man impersonating a police officer.

Shortly before midday yesterday (Thursday) officers received a report that a man, in police uniform claiming to be from North Wales Police, had called at a property near the High Street saying he was there to investigate a recent burglary.

The man, described as 5ft 10 inches tall had a shaved head and was wearing black trousers, black boots and a hi-vis jacket with ‘Police’ on the back.

Detective Sergeant Dafydd Hughes said: “We are urging people to be vigilant and to always report any suspicious behaviour.

“A genuine North Wales Police officer will show their warrant card which will have their collar number and will also be wearing uniform with ‘Heddlu / Police’.

“We are keen on speaking to anybody who may have information, or who may have been in the area today and who may have either dash cam footage, CCTV footage or footage from doorbell cameras to contact us immediately.”

Earlier this week, Dyfed-Powys Police said it was investigating a number of reports in the Ceredigion and Powys area of a man purporting to be a local police officer.

They said the man was contacting local businesses and asking questions about CCTV or stating they want to discuss a recent incident. On some occasions he said his name was PC Jackson.
