AN ANTISOCIAL behaviour co-ordinator is being appointed for Ceredigion from this month, Lampeter town councillors have been told.
Inspector Gareth Jones said it was part of a scheme that would see ASB co-ordinators take up roles in all Welsh counties.
“Any issues such as noise nuisance and neighbourhood disputes, they will be taken up with problem-solving groups,” he said.
“I know you cannot please everyone, but that is the aim – this is a new job and a new role so it will obviously take them some time to settle in.
“We are very conscious of the effect antisocial behaviour issues have on other people.”
When pressed about problems arising in Lampeter’s Bryn Road, Inspector Jones said police officers were working closely with the Wales and West Housing Association.
“The January, February and March crime figures for Lampeter are very much the same as last year,” he revealed.
“We had 25 to 35 incidents last month which is roughly one a day. When you compare Lampeter with other places it’s obvious that we live in a safe area. Some crimes have increased and others have decreased – for instance, I cannot say that there has been a massive increase in shoplifting: it’s all peaks and troughs. And I also wouldn’t say that there are more drugs in Lampeter than in other areas.”
Insp Jones confirmed that in the run-up to night-time events at places such as the Victoria Hall it was his responsibility to ensure there was adequate police cover in the town.
