THE body of a missing French tourist has been recovered from a crag of Cader Idris following an extensive rescue.

Rescuers from Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team found the body of 30-year-old Mathieu Dantigy following an extensive search by emergency serivces.

Mr Dantigy, 30, had been missing since Sunday when he failed to return to his hotel in Bala, and ongoing NWP investigations had led to the discovery of his car in the Minffordd car-park, a popular trail-head for Cader Idris.

Graham O’Hanlon attended the rescue. “Our sympathies go out to the friends and family of this man who lost his life,” he said.

Local Inspector Gethin Jones, North Wales Police added: “Officers accompanied Mathieu’s family to where he stayed and from where he was recovered on Cader Idris.

“They had an opportunity to speak with those involved in the operation and have today (Tuesday) undergone the very distressing task of identifying their son. On behalf of North Wales Police I’d like to extend our deepest sympathy.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with them.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the HM Coroner for North West Wales has been notified.
