A LOST child, a missing man, head injuries, and fog-bound walkers kept a mountain rescue team busy over bank holiday weekend.
Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team faced four call-outs over three days along with multiple other emergency response agencies.
The first callout took place on Saturday morning as team call-handlers were made aware of a party of walkers lost in poor visibility on Cader Idris.
The walkers, in their early 20s, had become disorientated in low cloud between Pen y Gader and Mynydd Moel and, although carrying a map and compass, were unable to use these tools to find their position in visibility reported to be down to 10m at times.
Using PhoneFind protocols, the teams were able to remotely pin-point the walkers and give them instructions on how to regain the path. Progress was monitored by phone and the party were able to successfully get down off the mountain.
Later that same day the team headed back up Cader Idris after there were reports of an injured man.
The man, in his early 60s, had taken a tumble whilst descending the Minffordd Path from the summit.
He had sustained a suspected fractured elbow along with a head and chest injury, but, aided by his companion, was able to continue down as team volunteers made their way up to meet him. The injuries were stabilised by casualty carers, and the man was escorted down off the mountain.
