THE air ambulance made an emergency landing on a football pitch in the centre of Cardigan at Sunday lunchtime following reports of a choking toddler.
Distressed parents ushered their own children away from the children’s area after paramedics rushed to the aid of the three-year-old boy who, according to some reports, had started choking on a sausage.
Eyewitnesses said the boy’s mother attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before the air ambulance landed on the football pitch and transported the toddler to hospital.
“I was walking home alongside the rugby club when I realised by the number of ambulances that were there that something was going on,” local councillor Mark Cole told the Cambrian News.
“There were a lot of parents and grandparents milling around looking very upset.
“People were taking their own kids away from the scene because they obviously didn’t want them to witness what was a very distressing scene.”
