A CEREDIGION charity is appealing for volunteers to help people in the county with any financial worries.
Ceredigion Citizens Advice has been working throughout the pandemic, solving problems and giving advice to thousands of local people. Although the offices have been closed, advisers have been working from home offering advice by telephone, email and video.
The volunteer team are at the very heart of the service and need more people to join them.
Volunteer co-ordinator is Lizzie James who oversees the training and guides volunteers through their adviser journey – she knows exactly what it entails as she started as a volunteer six years ago.
“It is the most rewarding role ever,” she said.
“People come to you with all sorts of problems and issues and you really do make a difference.”
Full training is given and volunteers are supported throughout by Lizzie and staff.
“We’re looking for people who are flexible and can commit to at least four hours volunteering with us a week,” said Lizzie.
Volunteers say the experience has been invaluable – especially during lockdown.
“Volunteering adds to the satisfaction of giving help,” said one.
And another commented: “It gives me time to concentrate on things unconnected with my daily life so it feels like I have had a break! It stimulates my brain cells.”
IT skills are a must along with a friendly attitude and non judgemental approach.
Citizens Advice deal with a huge range of issues from benefits enquiries and energy advice to debt and housing problems.
