A CLIMBER was airlifted to hospital after falling and sustaining “suspected head, neck and back injuries” at a popular climbing spot.

Last Saturday afternoon, a climbing party reported that one of their group had fallen at the top of the scree of Craig y Castell, behind Ysbyty Alltwen in Tremadog.

Fearing that the climber had suffered serious injuries, emergency teams were called upon to help the stricken man.

“With suspected head, neck and back injuries, the casualty was assessed and immobilised and transferred to a stretcher,” said a spokesperson for Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team.

“The patient was then lowered down the scree, where he was then winched aboard a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Caernarfon and evacuated to Ysbyty Gwynedd.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed the man was airlifted to hospital in a “stable” condition.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online tomorrow
