A HOUSE fire has devastated a property after an extension cord apparently overheated and set clothes alight.

Emergency services rushed to the Bron Gors estate in Blaenau Ffestiniog on Tuesday morning to reports of a fire, with plumes of smoke visible from miles around.

The two occupants of the house were treated on scene by paramedics but are not believed to be seriously injured.

The blaze - which is believed to have started when a pile of clothes caught fire after they were placed on the electrical cord - completely destroyed the house’s utility room and caused 15 per cent fire damage throughout the property.

The house was also badly smoke damaged.

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue confirmed that two appliances had attended the indecent, one from Betws y Coed and the other from Ffestiniog, and had used two pieces of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to quell the flames.

The fire was brought under control after an hour.

A spokesperson from the Welsh Ambulance Service also stated: “We were called at shortly after 9.40am on Tuesday morning to reports of a house fire in Rhiwbryfdir, Blaenau Ffestiniog.
