Worried business people have spoken of their concerns after six burglaries in Barmouth over the past month.

During the May Day bank holiday, the Anchor Restaurant and Knickerbockers Ice Cream parlour were targeted by thieves.

The Last Inn and The Tilman were burgled during the Whitsun bank holiday and it was revealed this week that The Bank Restaurant and Ty’r Graig Castle have also been targeted by criminals.

Deana Davies Fisher, who has operated Barmouth’s CCTV system since 2005, said the crime spree was “shocking and upsetting” to witness on the town’s streets.

She urged local residents to “stick together as a community” and to step up security to make it difficult for thieves to strike again.

Gwarchod Bermo has spent over 30 hours going through footage in the hope of finding the individuals responsible and information has now been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Measures are being taken by the town council to address the incidents, including reviewing the CCTV system in the area, but Cllr Phil Hill, mayor of Barmouth, stated that businesses themselves must also remain vigilant and consider potential preventive action.
