POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a collision on Thursday evening that left a man in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred at around 9.40pm on Thursday evening on Criccieth High Street.

The road was closed in both directions for over five hours as a result.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "A man has sustained serious, life threatening injuries following a collision in Criccieth last night (Thursday, 30th January).

"The collision, which involved a silver coloured Volkswagen Passat, happened on the A497 Pwllheli Road just prior to entering the 30mph zone in Criccieth shortly before 9.40pm.

"The emergency services attended and the male driver was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. He has since been transferred to hospital in Stoke."

Sergeant Trystan Bevan of the Roads Policing Unit added: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the Volkswagen prior to the collision to come forward.

“Anybody living in the area and who may have private CCTV is also asked to make contact with us via 101 quoting incident number Y013892."

"The road re-opened shortly after 3am."

A Welsh Ambulance Spokesperson said: "We were called at approximately 9.35pm last night, Thursday 30 January, to reports of a road traffic collision on High Street in Criccieth.

"We sent two rapid response cars and two emergency ambulances to the scene, and one person was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd"
