A LLANBADARN Fawr councillor has criticised the culprits behind the “mindless vandalism” of a bridge in his ward.

Cllr Paul James has asked Ceredigion County Council to take steps to repair the bridge, which is in the biodiversity site behind the Morrisons store in Llanbadarn, warning that it could be dangerous, especially for small children.

The damage is thought to have been caused on Thursday, 17 August, with the side of the bridge having been pulled loose of the frame.

Cllr James said: “I’ve told people to keep their kids away as it’s going over water and it is a health and safety issue.

“I’m disappointed that somebody would do something like that. This shows the need for CCTV really.

“It’s mindless vandalism. It’s such a nice walk down there.”

In an email to the council, which was also put on his Facebook page, Cllr James said it was important to repair the damage as soon as possible.

He said: “There is most certainly, as my resident informs me, a health and safety issue here and needs securing as a matter of urgency due to the amount of young children playing within the area.

“I suggest that parents encourage their children to stay away from this area until all the health and safety issues have been made secure and safe once more.”
