Months of repeated criminal damage, anti-social behaviour and arson at Gwynedd’s historic Dinorwig Quarry, have prompted police action.

An important part of the area's industrial and cultural history, the quarry is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site landscape, contains listed buildings and scheduled monuments, and is a protected heritage asset of national and international significance.

“Due to this, it is afforded additional protection in law, and those responsible for committing offences there can expect to be dealt with robustly,” police said.

North Wales Police Rural Crime Team will work closely with landowners and partner agencies to protect the area with additional security measures like CCTV, regular high-visibility patrols and covert patrols aimed at deterring and detecting offending.
