A MAN who admitted to drink-driving in Aberystwyth was pulled over by police because he was driving down a one-way street the wrong way.

Aled Thomas, 23, of 66 Heol Garreg Las, Llandeilo, pleaded guilty to being almost twice the legal limit of alcohol while driving his Vauxhall Astra the wrong way down Alexandra Road at 4.30am on Sunday, 4 October.

Prosecuting, Kevin Challinor said: “The defendant was driving towards a police car down a no entry street.

“When police officers asked the defendant if he knew why they had stopped him, he replied ‘drink driving’.”

Defending, Alison Mathias said: “He was staying in Aberystwyth with friends and had parked his car a distance from where he was staying.

“Foolishly, he went to move his vehicle where he thought it would be safer.”

Magistrates told Thomas he would be banned from driving for 18 months with the opportunity to reduce this by 18 weeks by completing a drink-driving awareness course.

Thomas was also ordered to pay a total of £430 in fines and costs.
