A TRAWSCOED accountant was found to be over the drink-drive limit after she was stopped by police as her car didn’t have an MOT, a court has heard.

Alexis Williams, of Lodge Fach, Trawscoed Mansion, pleaded guilty to drink-driving on 17 December after she was stopped while driving on the A487 at Trefechan in the early hours.

Kevin Challinor, prosecuting, said police officers saw Williams, 44, driving through Trefechan at around 3.50am with a check on the vehicle showing that it did not have a valid MOT.

Williams was stopped and while officers were speaking to her they smelt alcohol and asked her to take a roadside breath test, which she failed.

A test at Aberystwyth Police Station showed that Williams had 54 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Williams, who represented herself, apologised for the offence saying that she hadn’t realised she would be over the limit.

She said she had drunk a couple of pints as she is on medication, but said that she hadn’t eaten, which a police officer said could have affected the level of alcohol in her system.

Williams though said that was “no excuse” for being over the drink-drive limit and told magistrates that she believed the car had an MOT until January.

She was banned from driving for 15 months and will pay a fine of £288 and costs of £115.
