Emergency services were called to Porkington Terrace, near Barmouth Bridge, on Sunday after a discarded cigarette sparked a grass fire in the area.
Three fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 5.20pm and firefighters tackled the flames before extinguishing them just after 7pm.
A small amount of damage was caused to the bridge after the cigarette was apparently dropped.
A spokesperson for North Wales Fire Service said: “We were called at 5.22pm.
“The cause is believed to be a discarded cigarette. The incident was brought under control by 7.16pm.”
A Barmouth RNLI lifeboat was also called to the scene following a request from the fire service.
The volunteer crew launched the town’s inshore lifeboat, Craig Steadman, at 6.07pm to check the north side of Barmouth Bridge.
An RNLI press release said: “The ILB beached approximately 200 metres away from the fire and two of the crew went to observe.
“RNLI Barmouth stood by until the fire brigade was happy the fire had been extinguished.
“The crew departed the scene at 7.11pm and returned to the station at 7.30pm. The ILB was ready for service by 7.42pm.”
