A DRUNK Llandre man beat his mother so badly she was left unresponsive on the floor and required treatment from an ambulance crew, a court has heard.
Jamie Dutfield, 36, pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother, Gillian Dutfield, while he was drunk on 21 August.
Magistrates imposed a suspended prison sentence and warned Dutfield he was lucky not to be facing an immediate prison sentence.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said Dutfield had been on a family day out with his mother and partner, but following a row with his partner he had stayed out while other people returned to his mother’s home in Llandre.
Dutfield returned drunk and ended up climbing through a window to get into the house before launching an attack on his mother which saw him slap her to the face, grab her hair and force her to the ground before he started kicking her repeatedly.
When the police arrived, Mrs Dutfield was lying unresponsive, but conscious. Ms Tench said she received treatment from an ambulance crew, but was not taken to hospital.
Ms Tench said Mrs Dutfield had made it clear she did not support the prosecution of her son, who police said was very drunk.
Defence solicitor Katy Hanson said Dutfield, who said he was of no fixed abode, but would be returning to live at his mother’s home in Llandre after the case, “deeply, deeply regrets” the assault.
She said he had been acting as his mother’s carer for a lengthy period of time which had put pressure on him and that he accepted he had been drinking too much recently.
Dutfield was given two months jail suspended for 12 months, 25 rehabilitation activity days, a course on alcohol issues and £200 costs.
