EMEREGENCY services were rushed to Aberdyfi this afternoon following reports of people in difficulty off the coast.
Aberdyfi lifeboat crew were called to the scene at 2.20pm on Sunday following multiple reports of three casualties in difficulty off the coast, but when they arrived they found eight in the water.
Two air ambulances and the coastguard helicopter are at the scene of the rescue.
The BBC reports that eight people are 'being resuscitated'.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "Aberdyfi and Borth coastguard rescue teams, Aberdyfi RNLI lifeboat, the coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon, Welsh Ambulance Service and two air ambulances were all sent.
"Three people have been taken to hospital by the coastguard helicopter, one by an air ambulance and two by road ambulance.
"Two other people were checked over by paramedics on scene and did not need onward transfer to hospital.
"We have no further information at this time.”
