Criccieth lifeboats launched last Thursday following reports that three people had been cut off by an incoming tide.
Volunteer crew members at Criccieth’s RNLI lifeboat station launched both of their lifeboats at 12pm on 2 January.
The crew had received reports that two adults and a child had been cut off by the tide near Borth y Gest.
But the crew were unable to find the trio and the RNLI told the Cambrian News that it was likely they had made it to shore, unaware that the emergency services had been called out to assist them.
The crew launched the station’s Atlantic 85 class lifeboat, Doris Joan, from Criccieth into heavy seas, whilst it’s smaller inshore rescue boat, Margaret a Nantw, was transported by road to Porthmadog for launching.
Once launched, both lifeboats joined the local HM Coastguard team in conducting a thorough search of the area.
As the lifeboats searched, onshore crew members questioned walkers and people in local cafés to see if further information could be gathered.
As the search continued and more information became apparent, it was confirmed that all three people were safely ashore and that the call was a false alarm with good intent.
