A LARGE tract of land near Bala was on fire last weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, 15 May, two teams of firefighters rushed to a hillside blaze to the north of Bala, Glan y Afon, to extinguish a fire which had set alight 25 acres of gorse.

Plumes of smokes could be seen from many miles away according to one witness.

The fire crews spent over three hours using a hose reel jet and four beaters to battle the flames before eventually making the area safe.

The cause of ignition was believed to have been accidental.
