POLICE have this week confirmed that four men have been arrested following the assault on a well-known Hinterland actor outside an Aberystwyth bar.

It was reported in the Cambrian News last week that Aneirin Hughes, 58, who plays Chief Superintendent Brian Prosser in the internationally acclaimed series, which is set and filmed in Aberystwyth and the surrounding area, was assaulted outside Rummers Wine Bar, Bridge Street, in the early hours of Sunday, 10 July.

After only confirming the arrest of one person initially, police have now confirmed three men were arrested on suspicion of assault, with another arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

A police spokesperson said: “At approximately 12.45am on Sunday, 10 July, police received a report of an assault at a bar in Bridge Street, Aberystwyth.

"A 58-year-old man had suffered minor facial injuries during the incident. Three men, aged 51, 23 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of assault.

“A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. All have been bailed pending further enquiries.”

The Cambrian News also understands that Mr Hughes, who is originally from Penbontrhydybeddau, near Penrhyncoch, travelled to London last week to see a specialist about his facial injuries.
