LLWYNGWRIL residents are enraged following the suspected theft of the village’s woollen mascot, Gwril the Giant.

The friendly yarn figure became synonymous with the village last year as a centre piece in Llwyngwril’s ‘yarn bombing’ collection, a series of instalments which helps attract tourists to the area and raises vital funds for the local community centre.

Gwril was recently reinstalled on the side of the village’s ancient bridge donning a new woolly sheep hat in anticipation of this year’s upcoming International Sheepdog Trails in Tywyn.

However, villagers were shocked to find the figure missing on Sunday morning with no trace of Gwril to be found.

Pat Griffiths, one of the organisers of Llwyngwril Yarn Bombing Project, was disgusted that their prize piece had been removed.

“I’m absolutely furious that this could have happened in our little village,” an irate Pat told the Cambrian News.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police confirmed the incident.

“We received a call at 12.45pm Sunday afternoon with a member of the public reporting the theft of a knitted model in the shape of a giant.

“The model is reported to have been four feet high and four feet wide. We are currently trying to establish exactly what has taken place.

“Anyone with any information is encouraged to call 101 using incident number U077724.”
