LIFEGUARDS have returned to three more Ceredigion beaches at the weekend, bringing the county’s safest beaches up to the full complement of eight.

Having already been on duty at Llangrannog and New Quay beaches since May, and Tresaith, Aberystwyth North and Aberporth since early June, lifeguards started daily safety patrols on Borth, Clarach and Aberystwyth South on Saturday, 2 July, in good time for the summer school holiday period.

And lifeguards have been involved in a number of incidents already this summer, including rescuing a family and their pet dogs after they were cut off by the tide at New Quay on 1 June.

Samuel Trevor, Ceredigion RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, said: “We are coming towards the busiest period of the year on the beaches and our lifeguards will be on hand every day throughout the summer to provide information and advice on safety to visitors.

“We advise people to choose a lifeguarded beach and to always swim between the red and yellow flags.”

Safety cover on the county’s beaches is provided by the RNLI through a partnership between the charity and the county council, with the cabinet member for economy and tourism this week welcoming the return of full safety cover.
