A WOMAN was seriously hurt when a car crashed into the motorhome in which she was travelling and tipped it over onto its side.

The passenger side window broke and the woman suffered serious injuries to her arm as the vehicle slid along the tarmac.

The driver of the oncoming car said he was not overtaking at the time and could not explain why he was on the wrong side of the road.

Christian Brian Morris, 26, of Belgrave Road in Fairbourne, put it down to a loss of concentration.

He admitted by letter a careless driving charge on the A470 near Dolgellau on 12 May

He was fined £200, with £85 costs and a £30 surcharge – with nine penalty points on his licence.

Alun Williams, prosecuting for North Wales Police, told the court that the driver of the motorhome was driving on his correct side with his wife in the passenger seat when the defendant’s car appeared ahead on him on the wrong side of the road.

He feared there would be a head-on collision but the vehicle hit the motorhome to the side and tipped it over onto its near side.

The passenger window was smashed and the driver could see road passing underneath his wife as the vehicle slid to a halt.

She suffered a severe cut and a loss of skin to her left arm, for which she needed surgery, and bruising to the left hip.

In a letter to the court, Morris said that he must have lost concentration.

He could not remember how it happened.

The defendant said he was “truly sorry” for the hurt, damage and distress caused.

He could not recall passing over the centre white line which made it worse, he said.

Morris told how his “head was not in the right place” that day, he was deeply ashamed and could not apologise enough.
