A man who accused his partner of being unfaithful held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.

When Donna Marie Jones called the police, Keith Madden took the phone from her and when officers arrived he threatened to harm himself

At Llandudno Magistrates’ Court Madden, 32, of Knoll Hatch, Blaenau Ffestiniog, pleaded guilty to assaulting Ms Jones and was jailed for 20 weeks.

District Judge Gwyn Jones also imposed a restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms Jones or attending at Heol y Parc, Porthmadog, for five years.

Prosecutor James Neary said the defendant had assaulted Ms Jones several times in the past.

The latest incident occurred on 15 September when the couple left her home to buy a bottle of vodka. As they returned the argument began.

Carys Parry, defending, said the couple had been together for four years and Ms Jones accepted that she had a drink problem.

After drinking together at the Festival No 6 she then went on “an eight-day binge” which lasted until the offence occurred.

Mrs Parry told the court that Madden had had mental health problems since suffering a head injury in a car crash in 2005.

Passing sentence, the District Judge said Madden had been paranoid about Ms Jones’ fidelity.

“She must have been terrified,” he said.
