“AN INTELLIGENT young man” has been advised by a judge to give up cannabis so that he doesn’t appear in court again.

“You’re beginning to realise it’s not something that is doing you good,” Judge David Hale told 25-year-old Jake Underwood of Victoria Terrace, Pwllheli, on Friday.

Underwood was placed on a year’s community order at Caernarfon Crown Court, with a condition that he engages in a “thinking skills” requirement with the probation service. He must pay £200 costs.

Underwood, described as a hard worker, pleaded guilty to having half an ounce of cannabis intended to supply to his friends when a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police in Ala Road, Pwllheli.

“He said he paid £120 for it and put it in Tupperware bags to conceal the smell,” said Simon Parry, prosecuting.

He also pleaded guilty to being in possession of a lock knife, though the court heard he used it for his work.

Judge Hale said: “He’s going to be given a chance. If he’s bright enough he’ll take it, if not he’ll be back – and he knows the score.”
