POLICE have launched an investigation after a man died following a crash at a private race track in Pontrhydfendigaid.
The 24-year-old man from Bristol died on Sunday during an event at the Mid Wales Activity Centre.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1pm after the man, who has not been named, crashed the car he was driving.
A female passenger, also from the Bristol area, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
She has since been discharged from hospital.
The two-mile track at the Mid Wales Activity Centre is used by a number of rally clubs and holds several major car events.
The Hillbilly Sprint, a popular rallying event that has been held at the venue for several years and has been televised on S4C, has been postponed as a mark of respect following the death.
The event was due to take place on Sunday, 17 June.
The Barcud MC Auto Test Championship – set to take place on Sunday, 10 June – has also been postponed “due to recent events at the venue”, organisers announced.
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police was called to a single-car collision at a private race track at Mid Wales Activity Centre, Pontrhydfendigaid, at around 1pm yesterday.
“Sadly the driver, a 24-year-old man from Bristol, died at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
“No further information is available at this time.”
