A murder investigation has been launched in Lampeter following the death of a woman who was assaulted in the town centre last Thursday.

Police said the woman, who was taken to hospital following an incident in Bridge Street at around 6pm has since died and they have launched a murder inquiry.

A spokesperson said specialist officers are supporting the family.

Four men from the Lampeter area were arrested in connection with the incident.

A 40-year-old man remains in police custody.

A 27-year-old man has been released on police bail.

A 31-year-old man and a 37-year-old man have both been released with no further action.

DCI Anthony Evans said: “This is now a murder inquiry and I am appealing to anyone with information that could help the investigation, no matter how insignificant you may feel it is, to please get in touch.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

The police had earlier said the men were Polish and appealed to members of the Polish community to assist officers with their inquiries.
