NO DECISIONS have been made on Ceredigion’s harbour service in general and the Aberaeron’s harbourmaster’s role in particular.

The move follows fears that the local authority could reduce the number of county harbourmasters as part of cutbacks in expenditure.

Council consultants Pricewaterhouse Cooper have previously recommended cutting the number of harbourmasters by one-and-a-half.

A review of the service is scheduled to be held by the Corporate Resources and Overview Scrutiny Committee on 28 September.

“No detailed proposals or decisions have been made or approved in relation to the harbour service in general or its arrangements for service delivery at Aberaeron,” said a council spokesperson.

“The county council is engaged in a process of transformation with a view of responding as positively as possible to the very challenging financial climate it finds itself operating in.

“This will affect the wide range of services currently provided by the authority in various ways."
