North Wales firefighters have joined their colleagues in mid and south Wales to battle “significant wildfires” in those areas.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) said: “We are aware of the significant wildfires currently affecting parts of South and Mid and West Wales and the ongoing efforts of our colleagues responding to these incidents.

“To support the response, we have deployed resources and staff to assist crews in Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and equipment to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service while ensuring our operational availability across North Wales remains unaffected.

“With conditions remaining dry, we are urging everyone to take extra care and help prevent wildfires from starting.

Weather conditions may, at times, cause smoke from fires in South, and Mid Wales to drift into parts of North Wales. “If you notice smoke in your area, please do not be alarmed. As a precaution, keep windows and doors closed.

Our Fire Control colleagues have received a significant number of calls about smoke in recent days relating to fires elsewhere. Please only call 999 if you can see a fire in your area. Help us keep emergency lines clear.”

Issuing advice to reduce the risk of wildfires, the fire service said: “Do not light campfires, barbecues or disposable barbecues in the countryside.

“Dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials responsibly.

“Take litter home, particularly glass bottles and other reflective materials.

“Report any signs of wildfire immediately by calling 999.

“Thank you for helping protect our communities, countryside and emergency services during this period of heightened wildfire risk.”
