Police have been forced to stop people from visiting an Aberystwyth flat after neighbours were subjected to “persistent” and “serious” noise, swearing, and aggressive behaviour.

Nearby residents have repeatedly reported ongoing antisocial behaviour at all times of the day by visitors to Flat 3, 32 Portland Street – the home of tenant Joel Owens.

Police said that complaints were received of problems both inside the Tai Ceredigion flat and outside in the street.

A court heard that the issues led to “serious nuisance” for neighbours.

Officers acted to issue a 48-hour ‘closure order’ – which bans anyone except the tenant and the landlord to enter the building – at 2pm on Saturday, 1 December after visitors to the flat were once again reported to officers as being loud and aggressive.

On Monday, police secured a full ‘closure order’ for three months in a bid to curb the problems – the maximum allowed by the courts.

No unauthorised visitors will be allowed at the flat, with anyone in breach of the order facing arrest.

Tai Ceredigion said it was the first time such an order had been imposed on one of its properties and it is believed to be the first time one has been used in the whole of Dyfed-Powys.
