Three people had to be escorted to safety from a car parked on the breakwater in Aberystwyth after strong winds and a high tide saw waves breaking over the vehicle.

A number of bystanders called police after becoming concerned about the occupants of the white car on Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to what police called “difficult and extremely dangerous circumstances”.

Weather warnings had been in place for high winds and rain.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Tanybwlch beach following a number of calls about a car that was parked at the bottom of the jetty.

“Strong winds, along with the high tide, were causing waves to break over the jetty and the car, creating a very dangerous situation for the people inside the car.

“Three people were escorted to safety and the car was recovered.

“The swift actions of the police officers in difficult and extremely dangerous circumstances ensured the safety of the members of the public involved.

“No injuries were sustained during the incident.”
