PEOPLE were this evening being asked to avoid Alexandra Road in Aberystwyth while police deal with an ‘incident’.

A large police presence descended on the junction between Alexandra Road and Terrace Road at around 7pm this evening (Thursday) and it appeared as though the Hen Orsaf Wetherspoons pub had been evacuated.

In a statement, Dyfed Powys Police said: “Police are at scene of an incident near Alexandra Road, Aberystwyth.

“We are asking members of the public to avoid the area whilst we deal with the incident. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time.”

Police issued a later statement at around 9pm saying: "Police have now concluded dealing with the incident near Alexandra Road, Aberystwyth. "We appreciate your patience and would like to thank members of the public who avoided the area whilst we dealt with this incident."No details on why police were on the scene or why people were told to avoid the area have been released at present.
