Sadly the female passenger in the Renault Scenic who lived locally was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed.

The other parties were treated for minor injuries.

Sergeant Meurig Jones of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family”.

“We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have seen the vehicles travelling along the A487 prior to the collision to come forward.”

The road was closed for more than eight hours to allow officers to carry out their initial enquiries.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We responded with two ambulances and we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. One patient was transported by road ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor.”

The collision occurred close to where seven-month-old Mili Wyn Ginniver, from Blaenau Ffestiniog, and her aunt Anna Williams, 22, died in a crash last January and local politicians have been campaigning for safety measures to be implemented.
