HIGH-VISIBILITY patrols were carried out by police over Christmas and New Year in Cardigan in response to residents’ concerns over antisocial behaviour in the town centre.

A long-standing priority for the neighbourhood policing team, officers carried out patrols in December and early January after issues were reported in areas including Lower Mwldan and Williams Terrace.

The patrols were stepped up in 2014 in a bid to “monitor and address antisocial behaviour issues in Cardigan Town”, police said.

“The patrols include placing emphasis on, but not exclusively, underage drinking and the consumption of alcohol within the designated no drinking zone of the town,” a police spokesperson said.

In September last year a spate of graffiti incidents in Lower Mwldan, Queen’s Terrace and Greenfield Row areas saw police calling for residents to be vigilant.

Targeted patrols during the last three months of 2015 saw more than a dozen alcohol seizures being made in the town’s designated alcohol exclusion zone.
