POLICE hunting burglars who escaped with a “substantial” amount of cash from Lampeter rugby club at the weekend are seeking the driver of a red Audi A3 seen in the area at the time.

Officers say the driver may have information that could help the police investigation.

The move comes after burglars who broke into the club’s North Road headquarters in the early hours of Sunday morning and left a trail of damage costing several thousands of pounds.

The intruders, who smashed their way through seven doors as well as forcing tills and the clubhouse safe, are understood to have de-activated security alarms as well as a CCTV system in order to carry out the raid.

The burglary is thought to have happened between 1-5.50am on Sunday – just hours after the clubhouse was packed to capacity with rugby fans watching the England-Wales Six Nations international from Twickenham.

“Anyone who has seen anything suspicious, or saw the above mentioned vehicle in the Lampeter or Penbryn area during this time, or who has any information that could help the investigation, is asked to contact Lampeter Police on 101," said a spokesperson.
