Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for residents to help them fight terrorism and extremism in the UK.

The Prevent project is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism and extremism, and is one of four elements of CONTEST, the government’s counter-terrorism strategy.

It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

At the heart of Prevent is safeguarding children and adults and providing early intervention to protect and divert people away from being drawn into terrorist activity, and addresses all forms of terrorism.

Supt Gary Mills said: “Prevent plays an essential role in helping to safeguard communities in Dyfed-Powys. To support this, we have created an easy to access referral mechanism for the public to use, so that they can refer any concerns they have about somebody they know who may be vulnerable to radicalisation.

"Reports can be made easily allowing for reporting to be made at an early stage so that appropriate support can be given to those at risk.

"You may be in a unique position to be able to identify and support someone who may be vulnerable.

"Through collective vigilance we can help to reduce the threat and risk from terrorism and extremism together.”

Prevent works with partner agencies to provide practical help and support to prevent people from being radicalised.

If you have concerns about anyone you know who you think may be vulnerable to radicalisation, you can now make a Prevent referral via the Dyfed-Powys Police website. This can be done anonymously or otherwise.
