A YOUNG woman was rushed to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after plunging 20 feet off the promenade in Aberystwyth, the Cambrian News understands.

Emergency services, including the coastguard, ambulance, police and fire service, responded at just past midnight on Thursday, 1 December, to reports a woman had ended up on Aberystwyth North Beach.

The condition of the 20-year-old female is not known, but the Cambrian News has learned that she was treated for suspected spinal injuries at the scene, believed to be half-way between the paddling pool and the pier, and was in a stable condition on arrival at Bronglais Hospital.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Royal Pier manager Lee Price said a member of staff was alerted to the situation as the woman was sitting on top of the railings and threatening to jump down onto the beach.

“She was sat on the railings, and then one of my members of staff who was having a cigarette heard someone running and shouting about something or another,” Mr Price said.

“The person in questions was by herself, and had taken her shoes off and was sat on top of the railings.

“She said she was going to jump onto the beach, and then she did. I am led to believe a female member of the public went down to the beach, and a male member of the public called the emergency services.”
