A PROMISING young footballer lost his place at Wrexham Football Club after he was arrested for ecstacy offences, a court has heard.
Defendant Daniel George Llewelyn Roberts, 18, admitted supplying ecstasy, a class A drug, between January 6 and February 21 when he appeared at Mold Crown Court on Friday.
He also admitted possessing ecstasy with intent to supply on 20 February.
Roberts of Yr Hen Bost, Llandderfel near Bala, had been an apprentice football player with Wrexham on a two year scholarship contract but had now lost that as a result of the proceedings.
His barrister Desmond Lennon said that his client had never been in trouble before in his life.
It was a serious matter, he said, and asked for a pre-sentence report.
He now attended college and played for Bala.
Judge Rhys Rowlands told him that at first sight, the case inevitably called for a custodial sentence but in view of his young age he would adjourn sentence for a report from the probation service.
It was a serious matter and the guidelines suggested an immediate custodial sentence.
Judge Rowlands told Roberts: “At first sight it passes the custody threshold but you are only 18 and we need to know more about you.”
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing said that 2.49 grammes of ecstasy had been recovered, some six tabs, and the charge of earlier supply followed an examination of his mobile phone.
