A COMMUNITY group in Aberaeron has launched a campaign to raise £20,000 for a new emergency vehicle for the town’s fire station.
The Aberaeron Town Improvements Committee will kick-start its fund-raising drive with a tug-of-war championship at Square Field on Sunday, 21 May, to raise funds for a first responder vehicle the fire crew says is sorely needed.
“Last year we had 265 call-outs within a 16-mile radius of the town,” watch manager Louis Hunt told the Cambrian News.
“Our existing vehicle has been in service for 12 years and must have gone to thousands of calls over the last five years, so we have set our sights on a new Volvo.
“This is really needed because if someone is having a heart attack or a stroke, we can offer a potentially life-saving service.”
Aberaeron Town Improvements spokesman Huw Evans said they were hoping other communities would rally round.
“It’s important outlying communities come on board as this vehicle will cover their areas as well,” he said.
“You’d be surprised at how much money even a coffee morning can raise – any kind of amount will help.”
